Shaping Bright Futures Together

Acorn - Rapunzel

This version of Rapunzel is set in India, and we have been learning lots about life there. One of our children has recently visited on holiday and she was able to share her knowledge and experiences with the rest of the class. We have tasted poppadoms, learnt about the different types of animals that inhabit the country and practised moving around the hall like them.  We made some beautiful peacock pictures, (using our handprints and footprints) and learnt the word for Hello....'Namaste'.

The book is illustrated with pictures showing a tall tower and a beautiful palace.  We have used this as a basis for our maths, and have looked around the classroom to find different items that we can combine in order to build a large tower.  We have also compared sizes by looking at different lengths of Rapunzel's 'hair' (braided wool) and used lots of length language.

In phonics, the children have been listening to my robot voice to identify different animals, and then have developed this further by using their own robot voices so that I can take my turn identifying animals.  For some children, this is the first time that they have done this, and their skills are definitely improving.  We have also learnt a great song about elephants that have wrinkles and asked lots of questions about how elephants eat.......something we will find out more about when we learn about Kenya next week!
