The Princess and the Pea
Kenya has been our destination this week. The story is packed with beautiful pictures of an African landscape and we have focused our learning on animals that live there. We have also tested out whether anyone could feel a pea (marble) under a pile of mattresses. When this failed, we increased the size of the pea (a larger marble) and reduced the pile of mattresses until at last we could feel it.
In Maths, we have been counting amounts of different animals and showing the total on our fingers. We have also had practice in this in our counting song, about elephants going out to play. An African animal lotto game has also been popular.
We have had great fun drumming beats on different types of African drums. The children have really impressed us with their sense of rhythm and some of them have even mastered drumming with alternate hands.
It has been internet safety week and we have talked about our use of technology at home. We have stressed how important it is that parents know what they are watching and playing, and also what to do if something that scares them pops up. Please refer to the message that I sent out to Acorn parents earlier in the week, with some handy links to sites that can offer advice on keeping your child safe on the internet.
On Monday, we enjoyed watching the Year 5 play of Hansel and Gretel. The children were spellbound and the performances were excellent. On Thursday, they also thoroughly enjoyed watching the Holly children recite a poem about a tiger.
Our passports are now full, and it is time for a half term rest. I would like to thank you all for a lovely half term and wish you Happy Half Term holidays!
