Shaping Bright Futures Together

Holly Class week beginning 27th January

It was our open classroom this afternoon in Holly class and the children were so excited to share with you, all of the brilliant learning they have done linked to Antarctica and penguins. Thank you so much to those who could come.

As part of our art work linked to sculpture the children have all worked on making junk model penguins this week. They have learnt joining techniques and had to think carefully about the resources they had to make their penguin. I think you will agree, they are all fabulous!

At drawing club, the children have also been busy finishing off their penguin fact files. They have all been so carefully written and illustrated. The reception children have been using their phonics knowledge and are starting to write sentences more independently whilst the Year 1 children are writing questions with correct punctuation and sequencing sentences to answer them. We have also started planning for another fact book project, this time writing about an animal that the children can choose themselves.

In maths this week the reception children have been learning about and recognising doubles, some have also had a go at writing the number sentences. The Year 1 children have completed their place value unit with some work comparing and ordering numbers to 20.

In geography this week we have been learning about what a compass is and the main four directions. We all played a compass game outside and then made some of our own compasses. The year 1 children have also started work on their new science unit of work, living things and their habitats.

I have also included some photos from a visit we had from Mr Jackson last week who very kindly came into school to talk to us about his job in the RAF. We learnt all about the plane he works with, the places that he has travelled to and some children were even lucky enough to try on his helmet and hat!
