Shaping Bright Futures Together

24 25 Hawthorn Wb 16 June

It's been hot, hot, hot this week and the children have done their best despite the ever-increasing temperatures.

In English, we've been writing sentences in different ways using conjunctions to join phrases - all based on 'How to hide a lion at school'. This week in maths, Year 1s have continued working with numbers to 100 and practised counting both forwards and backwards. The Year 2s have been finding different ways to make amounts using both notes and coins.

In Computing, we thought about how to provide the best lighting conditions for our photographs then had a go at applying filters to change their appearance. We also finished our castles artwork - please see the photo gallery. We have now started our new topic, 'Beside the Seaside'.  We began by thinking about what we already know then took a look at the seas around the coast of the United Kingdom. We also got creative and made some sea creatures from clay which we'll be painting next week.

In Music we continued with our work on "Hush" (a quiet poem /rap) and the children used the percussion instruments and looked at different ways to play them to provide a backing track for the poem.

Wednesday morning was a highlight when we participated in the cluster Multi-Skills morning at the field. The children did us proud and demonstrated great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout all the activities. Well done, Team Hawthorn!
