Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

24 25 Hawthorn Wb 23rd June

We've had another busy week in Hawthorn class and the children have continued to work hard.

In English, they wrote lots of questions about 'How to hide a lion at school' - each one starting with a different question word. They also had a go at proofreading a piece of writing to help develop their editing skills. In maths, Year 1s are starting their work on Money while Year 2s are just finishing this topic. Any practical 'real-life' experience would be very beneficial!

The children have now painted their sea creatures so take a look at the photos to see what a creative bunch they are!

We've investigated the human and physical features that can be found at the coast and talked about seaside locations in the UK the children have visited.

We also thought about how to keep ourselves safe at the seaside and found out how important it is to use sun lotion even when it's cloudy overhead.

We finished our digital photography unit in Computing by taking our best photos yet, and then explored how easy it is for photographs to be manipulated and agreed that we should be cautious when deciding whether an image is real or not.

In RE, the children learnt about the Muslim practice of Salat, which involves praying five times a day. They really enjoyed designing their own prayer mats but had to remember not to include any animals or people, in-keeping with tradition.

Finally, in science we carried on with our work on materials and the children investigated the flexibility of different materials and we then thought about how we could measure and present our results.
