The children have completed their final piece of independent writing, based on 'How to hide a lion at school'. We reimagined the story based on a jaguar who wanted to spend time at our own school in Ashton. On Monday, we practised our photography skills and found lots of sneaky hiding places for him around the grounds. On Tuesday, the children planned out their stories, and then went on to write them on Wednesday. It's so lovely to see how far they've all come this year and we're very proud of them. Their stories were a joy to read.
We've been learning about Time in maths, with Year 2s tackling the tricky business of recognising o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to on an analogue clock. We've used our mini clocks with growing success. Next week, they'll be telling the time to five minutes, so any practice you can do at home will really help. Year 1s have been learning about days of the week and months of the year before moving on to o'clock and half past next week.
In Topic, we completed our data collection about the resorts children have visited, and compared the human and physical geographical features to be found at the seaside with those in our own locality.
In Computing, the children developed their skills by creating algorithms to direct a 'paper bot' to a series of destinations. This will be extended next week when they try them out with the BeeBots to see if their programs work.
In Science we have been continuing with out work on materials, thinking about flexibility, rigidity and stretchiness.
Finally, we finished a very hot week with a forest school session. Slightly different than usual due to the high temperatures so we stayed in school and carried out water challenges and play. As you can see from the pictures, it was great fun!
