Shaping Bright Futures Together

Holly Class Week beginning 16th June

It has been a lovely sunny week in Holly Class! We are beginning a unit of work based on the book Sea of Dreams. The children have enjoyed looking at some clues that were hidden in the sandpit linked to the text and making some predictions about what it might be about. They have also done some brilliant story writing based on a story about some animal friends who follow a rope to cave and find some treasure.

In maths, the Reception children have been working really hard to recall their number bonds automatically, they have played lots of games to practise this as well as recording their maths in some number bonds booklets. The Year 1 children have been working on counting in 2s and 10s this week. They have used lots of practical resources to support them to feel really confident with this new skill.

We stayed on site for Forest School this week as the weather was so warm and instead enjoyed some water play to cool off. For our PE lesson Mrs Gibbons and Mrs Gardiner also set up lots of water play games to keep us cool a having fun in the heat!

We have been learning about maps and aerial photographs in Geography this week and worked to spot the features from the seaside on them and match them up, the children did a super job of practising the geographical vocabulary we were learning last week. We also started a new science unit and went on a materials hunt around the school and grounds. I wonder if the children can tell you the names of different materials they can find at home?!

On Wednesday the Year 1 children joined with Hawthorn class for a PE multiskills morning, they had a lovely time and will be well practised for Sports Day now! On Wednesday we also said goodbye to our lovely student teacher, Miss Player. We celebrated her and said thank you for all of the help she has given us by making her an enormous card and spending time together outside with an ice lolly.
