Shaping Bright Futures Together

Holly Class Week beginning 9th June

The sunshine and seaside has arrived in Holly class this week as we begin our new Geography topic, Beside the Seaside. The children have loved spending time in the theatre space in our classroom which is now set up as the beach, a boat and an ice cream shop! The children have also been recapping their knowledge of the countries that make up the UK and sharing their experiences of visiting the seaside. We enjoyed spotting some coastal settlements using google earth and learning about the the geographical features of the beach.

In maths, our Year 1 children have been learning about money. They have learnt to recognise the values of coins and notes and used their skills when counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to add coins of the same value together. The role play ice cream shop has been very busy as they have become more confident with their spending skills! The reception children have also been starting to recognise and use coins as part of role play as well as working on building their confidence when counting forwards and backwards.

At drawing club this week we have been reading a lovely book by Tom Percival called 'The Bridges'. The children have come up with some brilliantly imaginative islands that they might like to travel to across an imaginary bridge and written postcards home from them.

PE this week was in the hall due to all of the rain on Thursday afternoon but the children worked brilliantly in teams as they practised some races in readiness for Sports Day!
