Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Week Beginning 31st March

This week has been assessment week so we have been doing a variety of different tests, which the children have worked very hard on. Around all the tests we have been squeezing in some fun too.

In our writing lessons we have been writing recounts about some inspiring women from history and at the same time learn more about verb tenses and parenthesis. The children chose to write about either Barbara Hillary, who was the first African American to reach the North and South poles, or Junko Tapie, who was the first women to climb Mount Everest.  After researching, they planned out how they would organise the facts and then wrote using subheadings to separate the paragraphs. They worked hard and tried to edit their writing after each paragraph. Next week they will work independently to write their final recount on another women from history.

In our Topic lesson we learnt about the differences in population data from the UK and beyond and the areas of the countries too. We created some living graphs using multi-link to represent the relative sizes of population and area to show which were more populated and bigger. This required lots of maths thinking and the children used their fraction knowledge to help them. Following this we also looked at a topographical map of the UK and using the atlas' and iPads, we labelled the highest peaks across the UK. These are facts that the children will need to remember to build on their knowledge of what the UK looks like.

We are still working hard to finish our pod casts and have started to practice our performance for the Easter assembly and even squeezed in some parachute fun in PE. Oak children are really enjoying the sunshine at playtimes too, please ensure they bring a water bottle to school and have a hat as the sun's heat increases.
