Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Week Beginning 9th June 2025

Oak Class have been getting into shape - the 2D variety, learning and revising their properties and working on their geometric skills when drawing triangles and quadrilaterals. We can describe a variety of different polygons, both regular and irregular and can sort them using range of methods using Venn and  Carroll diagrams.

The writing that Oak produced this week has been some of the best they have written all year. They were asked to write a setting description and use a wide range of different features to pull together, a lot of their recent learning. By using high quality vocabulary, figurative language and even some poetic phrases, mimicking the style our book The Ice Bear.

We have also been thinking very philosophically this week. Our new RE topic is all about belief and why some people believe in God and why others don't.  The discussion that this topic encouraged was fascinated and lots of the children had clear ideas about some of their thoughts. They learnt the meaning of the words theist, agnostic and atheist and looked at a range of different opinions to try to match to the definitions.

Finally, we had our last trip, for this year, up to forest school, and Year 5's last ever visit!! We had a great time, sitting around the camp fire, toasting marshmallows and turning them into smores; delicious. The Year 5 children have great memories of many forest school visits which I hope they will hold dear for years to come.
