Willow wb 16.06.25
This week we started work on our new topic which is history based and all about life in 1940s Britain. We began by learning about the countries who were involved in WW2 and some of the causes for this event in History. We then mapped the countries according to those who were allies, those controlled by axis power and those who remained neutral. Next week we will be considering what life was like for children during this time and how the war had an impact on their everyday lives.
As part of our Science, we explored how sounds are made. We learned that sound is caused by vibrations, and we had fun observing this in action by watching the skin of a drum vibrate when we struck it. We also watched an incredible video showing how owls can silently swoop down to catch their prey. This is such a great example of how animals use sound (or the lack of it!) to survive.
In Maths, Willow Year 3 children have been learning to identify right angles in everyday objects and shapes. They are becoming experts at spotting them all around the classroom and in the playground! Meanwhile, our Year 4s have been working hard to find lines of symmetry in different shapes, using mirrors and folding techniques to test their ideas. They also completed a money problem solving activity which required them to use their mental math's skills and knowledge of place value.
In English, we’ve been diving into grammar by identifying the main clause in sentences. We also practiced writing our own sentences using subordinating conjunctions, all inspired by our class book Oliver and the Seawigs. The children came up with some wonderfully imaginative sentences, showing how much they’re enjoying the story.
