Shaping Bright Futures Together

2526 Acorn & Holly Class 24th April

We’ve had a wonderful start to our topic, People Who Help Us. During our first week we focused on the role of doctors. The children enjoyed reading about Zog and the flying doctors and had great fun in their own doctor’s surgery, learning the names of doctors’ tools and using them to help their poorly patients. They made up their own prescriptions and medicines using foraged plants and flowers from Forest school and challenged themselves to place the body parts correctly onto a life size body. They also made their own x-ray hands using cotton buds and looked at what germs look like under a microscope. They then had a go creating their own germs using playdough, pasta and pipe-cleaners.
This week, we have been reading a book called about a lollipop pheasant called Philippa who helps the country animals to safely cross the road. The children have enjoyed the outdoor classroom to make chalk roads and role-play crossing over a zebra crossing. They made their own lollipop signs and used these when wearing high visibility jackets to practice safely crossing a real road.
We’ve had a great start to the topic and are looking forward to thinking about other people who help us!
