Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

2526 Acorn & Holly Class 3rd July 2026

t’s been a hot few weeks but we have still managed to have lots of fun in Acorn and Holly.
The children have been continuing to think about the world around them, looking at the countryside and farming. They enjoyed the text Ruby plants a radish by Kate Petty, learnt about the life cycle of a radish, wrote about what they would like to grow and how they would harvest their crop. The children checked up on the progress of the sunflowers they planted in the Spring and investigated insects during their classroom play and under rocks in the outdoor space. They also made prints of different fruit and vegetables and observed the intricate patterns on them.
The children have since been thinking about the wider world they live in supported by the texts ‘The Map of Me’ by Nichola Davies and ‘The Great Explorer’ by Chris Judge. The farmers market roleplay area has transformed into an explorers’ base camp. The children are having great fun finding objects to pack in their backpacks for their adventures. So far, we’ve witnessed the children role-playing travelling as local as Northway in Tewkesbury to as far away as Mars and Saturn!
There has been much splashing about with water in our tuff trays and trips to Forest School to cool down under the trees. Holly children have also had a visit into their new classroom to help prepare them for the new adventures that await them in the coming academic year and the Acorn children have been excellent at welcoming in lots of new children that will join the school in September.
Yesterday, we all had lots of fun at Sports Day. For some of the children, this was their first sports day. We were so proud of all of them, for taking part and showing such positive attitudes and Ashton School values. Well done Holly and Acorn!
