2526 Acorn and Holly week beginning 10th November
What a brilliant couple of weeks we have had since the half term break. The children have all come back to school well rested and ready for learning, it is lovely to see.
Last week, our learning was led by the book 'Pumpkin Soup, we fully emersed ourselves in the autumn season with this lovely story about friendship. At drawing club, the children created their own weird and wonderful soups, as well as coming up with exciting vessels to make them in! The Acorn children are doing a brilliant job of speaking their 'code sentences' clearly and fully whilst the Holly children are applying all of their ever-growing phonics knowledge to write their code words. The children also worked in groups to consider the feelings of the different characters in the story, showing these with playdough and were brilliant story tellers as they worked together to walk down the story map and retell the story.
There were lots of other pumpkin themed learning opportunities across the week including pumpkin observation drawings and paintings in the studio where the children particularly enjoyed looking at the similarities and differences of the small and big pumpkins, as well as making both forest school pumpkin soup and using our maths skills and following a recipe to make delicious pumpkin soup we could taste.
This week we have had a visit from Naughty Bus. We learnt about Naughty Bus in a book and then found that it was up to all sorts of mischief around our classroom. Naughty Bus painted on the tables, hid on top of the whiteboard and then went on some adventurers around school with the children...it even made a sneaky visit to Mrs Tulley's office! The children have been using some photographs they took to create their own Naughty Bus books which they are really proud of.
We have loved creating a bus role play this week, the children have made steering wheels and tickets and have shown some great imaginative play. In our garage space of the classroom we have made some giant floor maps that the children have drawn themselves and then used wooden blocks to create cityscapes for their small world play.
In maths, the Reception children have been working hard on their subitising skills and have really impressed us with their careful counting. They have played lots of games that help them to practise finding 1 more and 1 less than a given number and have even made their own track games to keep working on these skills through their play. Our Acorn children have been working on representing numbers an have been practising this in all sort of different exciting ways...using spiders legs and rockets to name just a few!
Do have a look at the photos to see the children all enjoying their learning these past few weeks.
