2526 Acorn and Holly week beginning 15th September
The children in Acorn and Holly class are settling into school life brilliantly, we are so proud of them. Everyone is getting to grips with the routines and rhythms of our classroom and it is lovely to see so many happy, engaged little learners busy playing together.
Last week we used the story 'The Colour Monster' to lead our learning and spent lots of time talking about emotions and feelings and what these mean. The children worked together and painted a big, mixed up colour monster as they talked about which colours might go with different emotions and we also made a little 'check in' station for the classroom where the children can add their peg to a colour monster to show how they are feeling.
This week we have started our 'Explorers' topic and ventured into the deep, dark wood with the Gruffalo! The children have loved retelling this story as it is one many of them are familiar with and are working together to create an explorers tent and woodland in the theatre space in our classroom. At forest school on Tuesday, the children had a wonderful time outside making Gruffalo Crumble and on Wednesday we had some mystery Gruffalo shaped footprints in our classroom. The children loved trying to get to the bottom of where they had come from and had lots of brilliant ideas. Next to the footprints was a big mess of maths resources that the ‘Gruffalo’ had left and the children did a brilliant job of sorting them and matching them back into the correct baskets – we had been practising this in our maths sessions so they put their skills to the test!
All of the children have been enjoying our Drawing Club sessions and we have seen some wonderfully imaginative pictures, this week they have drawn their own character for the deep dark wood and imagined what the mouse’s house might look like. The Reception children have also been writing a ‘code word’ using their super new phonics skills.
