Shaping Bright Futures Together

2526 Hawthorn 14th November

We're well into our second half term together as a class, and there's already been lots of fun and learning!

In English, we've continued our work on the Nosy Crow version of Little Red Riding Hood, and have been practising our writing skills while expanding our knowledge of grammar. Next week, the children will have a go at writing their own stories set in a different location and we're looking forward to reading the results!

Addition and subtraction is the focus in maths. Year 1s have been working on their addition skills within 10, while Year 2s are working towards adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers.  The children then used all of these skills to work together on a problem solving exercise - could they build a number bond to 10 triangle? Look at the photos to see some super team work being carried out.

We have started a new topic called, 'Are we there yet?', which is all about the history of transport. We began by utilising the children's creative skills, using watercolours to paint a range of vehicles for our class display. The children now know quite a lot about the development of transport over thousands of years, with a particular focus on cars this week. Next week we'll turn our attention to George Stephenson and his contribution to the history of the railways.

Our RE topic is called, 'What is the 'good news' Christians believe Jesus brings?' We've discussed forgiveness and the children completed an activity called 'Forgiving Fingers' to help them learn about why it's important to forgive and how to go about it. In Computing, we'll be moving on to creating media in the form of digital writing.

In Science, we have continued with our work on animals and we have been looking at different animals and sorting them to decide whether they are mammals, reptiles, birds, fish or amphibians.

We're very much looking forward to our cinema trip next week, and - speaking of all things theatrical - we'll be making a start on learning the songs for our upcoming Nativity performance. We can't quite believe how quickly Christmas is approaching!
