Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

25 26 Hawthorn 5th December

We're fast approaching the end of term and our days are very busy in Hawthorn class!

In English, we've been working on a new non-fiction book all about penguins which the children are thoroughly enjoying. They're currently learning some new writing skills based on the text before creating their own special booklets about a different animal.

We've continued our work on addition and subtraction in maths, with both year groups approaching the end of their units. For the next few weeks we'll be taking a look at 2D and 3D shapes and seeing how we can incorporate this learning into the wider curriculum.

We've almost completed our transport topic, having investigated the invention and development of cars and trains. The children also enjoyed finding out about the life of Amelia Earhart, one of the first female pioneers of air travel. Next, they will design their own vehicle of the future, before working on a DT project to make a sleigh for Santa!

In Science we have been learning about animal bodies, carnivores, herbivores and omnivores - ask your child if they can remember which is which!

On Wednesday the whole school took part in glow dodgeball where they played a range of dodgeball type games in the dark with neon outfits and lights - have a look at the photos - they children loved it!

We're sure you'll have heard all about our nativity rehearsals and we'd like to thank you for your help with learning lines and providing costumes. We hope you'll be able to attend a performance next week as you'll be in for a real festive treat!
