Shaping Bright Futures Together

2526 Oak Class 23rd January 2026

Oak class have been very busy in the last few weeks. In English they have been exploring the book ‘Straw into Gold’ by Hilary McKay. We looked at how McKay’s version of Rumpelstiltskin differs from the original tale and the vocabulary she uses to describe the characters and setting. The children are now preparing to put what they have learnt into their own retelling of the story of ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin.’

In Maths we have been finding the area and perimeter of rectangles and compound shapes. As well as completing the usual questions the children also tried creating their own islands with certain areas.

Our science unit this term is exploring electricity and this week Oak class were able to create their own simple circuits using different components and draw them using the scientific symbols.

Our RE unit this term is ‘What kind of King was Jesus?’ and we started this unit by discussing the biggest problems in the world and trying to think about how we could make the world a better place.
