Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

26 27 Hawthorn 18th September

Welcome back!  We have had a lovely first three weeks settling in to our new class and getting to know each other and all our routines.

Having said that, the children have started lots of their learning and are working well both independently and with partners.

We are working on a super book in English called Zim Zam Zoom which is a poetry book and we had great fun learning and performing different poems - can you roll your tongue?  It turns out that lots of us couldn't!

In maths we are starting to look at place value and have been looking at numbers up to 20 and using lots of our resources to make those number (see the photos).

We had a fabulous time in Science, learning about the body and drawing ourselves on the playground so we could label all the parts we know.

In History, we started to find out about timelines and event that happen now (in the present) and after (in the past).  We shared some of our baby photos but we are doing more with this next week, so if you didn't send in a photo of your child from "before" you still have time.  Either send in a hard copy or email a picture through on the class email that we can print out.

In Art, the children started to discover the artist, Paul Klee and they tried drawing in his style whilst different pieces of music played.

It was good to see so many of you for the "Meet the Teacher" session on Wednesday.  If you missed it, don't worry, the slides have been uploaded onto our class page of the website.

Finally, thank you for all your support with their reading at home - we work on this at school but any extra reading really helps too.

A selection of photos are available here.
