Would You Rather Live in the Stone, Bronze or Iron Age?
Willow Class have begun their new History topic, “Would You Rather Live in the Stone, Bronze or Iron Age?” We started our learning by travelling back thousands of years to explore the prehistoric settlement of Skara Brae, which was discovered after a powerful storm on the Orkney Islands exposed the remains of the ancient village. We became history detectives, exploring the evidence and making inferences about what life may have been like for the people who lived there. We explored the different features found inside the homes and thought carefully about what they might have been used for.
In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of place value. We have been practising counting in thousands, recognising the value of each digit within a number and finding 10, 100 and 1,000 more or less than a given number. We have used Base 10 equipment and place value counters to help us visualise numbers and understand how the value of each digit changes depending on its position.
In our writing lessons, we have been exploring our new text, Jack and the Dreamsack. This week, the children have been developing their descriptive writing skills by creating vivid descriptions using expanded noun phrases and carefully selected adjectives. We have also written our own versions of the opening, where the children had to decide which magical dream world their character would enter.
We have also had our first French lesson. We began by learning how to pronounce the days of the week in French, practising our pronunciation. To help us remember the new vocabulary, we learnt a song and joined in with the actions.
