Willow wb 19.05.25
This week has been an exciting one in Willow class as we celebrated Science Week with a variety of hands-on activities and experiments! On Monday, as part of our main Science lesson, the children learned about air resistance. The class had a fantastic time using the large parachute to explore how air can slow things down. We also explored water resistance and how it affects the movement of objects. It was a great way to see science in action and sparked lots of interesting questions and ideas. On Thursday we had a fun Science themed afternoon where the whole school went round in house groups to try out four different experiments including making a fire snake, rainbow chromatography, a density investigation and making 'elephant toothpaste'. These experiments were designed to create awe and wonder in science and the children thoroughly enjoyed them. On Friday, we held a whole school Science investigation linked to the forces acting upon a paper aeroplane. The children enjoyed designing their own plane before taking part in the whole school competition.
In addition to science, we had a creative twist with a music lesson using the parachute. The children used the parachute to learn about long and short notes, moving in rhythm and creating music with movement. It was a wonderful way to combine music, physical activity, and teamwork.
In maths, we’ve started learning about telling the time. The children have been practising reading clocks and beginning to use Roman Numerals to represent the hours on an analogue clock. In year four, we have also been learning to convert between seconds, minutes and hours using our knowledge of the multiples of 6. In Writing lessons we have learnt about relative clauses and used them to create some sentences about the characters in Meerkat Mail. We had to use the relative clause to add in extra information which taught us something new about the characters.
Whilst it has been a short half term, we have fitted in lots of new learning and Willow class have continued to work hard. We hope you all have a lovely half term break.
