Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

2526 Hawthorn wb 23rd March

Goodness! What a busy half term! We’ve done such a lot during the last 5 weeks …

We finished our English unit this week when the children wrote their own information texts based on our book, Look Inside Space. Some of them even had a go at adding flaps to provide an exciting question and answer format.

In maths, both year groups are now working on multiplication and division, and have been finding out about the importance of equal groups – and what happens if the groups are unequal. Year 2s will start working on times tables shortly after the Easter break, and we know they’re all very keen to get going!

In PE, the children enjoyed a couple of longer sessions when we were joined by pupils from Sedgeberrow First School and participated in a range of activities up at the playing fields. They also took part in an archery session and learnt some completely new skills.

We’re coming to the end of our learning about Jewish people and how they live today. This week, we focused on Hanukkah and the children used their creative skills to make some lovely hanukkiahs (otherwise known as menorahs).

In topic, we have a little more to learn before we finish so will be continuing after Easter. The children really enjoyed going on a litter pick around school and have been thinking about how they can individually make a difference as we strive to make our world a better place.

And in computing, the children have been developing their programming skills using Scratch and have again shown us just how creative and inventive they can be!

We hope you have a lovely break but go steady on the chocolate! We’ll see you all again on Monday 13th April – rested, refreshed and raring to go!
