Shaping Bright Futures Together

Acorn 25 A Street Through Time

It is lovely to see Acorn Class children return to school well rested, happy and bronzed!  We have started the term by looking at the book, A Street Through Time, which shows how a piece of land changes over thousands of years to present day.  It includes the rise and demise of a castle.  This has therefore been the perfect introduction to this term's topic of Turrets and Towers.

We are in the process of building our own role play castle and will be learning about life in one over the coming weeks.  On Tuesday, we  visited the church (a chance to look at a very old building) and walked to the meadow.  The children enjoyed visiting and playing under the huge Oak tree.  Our maths has centred around numicon, and how you can use the different sized shapes to create pictures.  Our phonics has been syllable clapping.  The children are becoming really good at identifying the different 'beats' in a word and we will continue this next week.

Towards the end of the week Mrs Shiels brought in some mystery objects for the children to guess what they were used for.  The children thought hard and came up with some brilliant ideas.  One object was a candle snuffer and the children guessed a bell, a magnet, a watering can, telescope, horn etc. Your children are amazing!
